World’s Leading Hair Transplant Surgeons Honor Two Distinguished Members With Prestigious Follicle Awards At ISHRS 32nd World Congress

CHICAGO – November 13, 2024. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) recently honored two members for their significant contributions to the field of hair restoration surgery during its 32nd World Congress, held in Denver, Colo., Oct. 17-19, 2024.

The ISHRS Golden Follicle Award is bestowed annually to a physician who has made outstanding and significant clinical or educational contributions related to the field of hair restoration surgery. The 2024 Golden Follicle Award was presented to Arthur Tykocinski, MD, FISHRS, of São Paulo, Brazil. A past president of ISHRS, Dr. Tykocinski is a dermatologist who has dedicated his career exclusively to hair transplant surgery for the past 30 years.

Highly passionate about his work, Dr. Tykocinski’s talent as a hair transplant surgeon is unparalleled and an inspiration to his colleagues around the world who admire his great sense of aesthetics and quest for perfection. A frequent presenter at the ISHRS annual World Congresses, Dr. Tykocinski is known for his unique presentations combining superior scientific content with bold creativity and cutting-edge imaging technologies.

He is a resolute defender of the idea that hair transplant surgery should be performed exclusively by surgeons and was instrumental in the creation of the ISHRS’s Fight the FIGHT public education campaign committed to educating and helping people who have been victims of fraudulent, illicit hair transplant clinics around the world.

The ISHRS Platinum Follicle Award is given for outstanding achievement in basic or clinical research, or an invention or discovery, or furthering techniques and methods in a profound way that has resulted in the advancement of the field of hair restoration.

The 2024 Platinum Follicle Award was presented to hair restoration surgeon Pascal Boudjema, MD, of Paris, France. Considered one of the forefathers of FUE for his invention of a motorized device in 1992 designed for the extraction and loading of grafts, Dr. Boudjema developed one of the first multiblade instruments which cuts several hundred grafts in a matter of seconds. Known for his modesty and self-effacing nature, Dr. Boudjema is lauded for his many revolutionary ideas and patents – including the Calvitron, Microtome, Hair Implanter Pen, and the FUE Extractor. In 2008, he invented a peripheral cutting punch to preserve graft integrity and continues to push state-of-the-art advancements in hair transplantation to new heights.
