Program Description

The live online webinar will occur on the date and time as noted. The live program will be recorded and available for viewing on demand until January 12, 2026. This 2.5-hour CME activity is a live webinar which will be recorded with the intention to be re-watched or viewed as on-demand education. This 2.5-hour live webinar, “Back to Basics: Biology, Histology, and Physiology of Hair,” aims to strengthen the foundational knowledge of hair follicle anatomy, physiology, and histology. By exploring the growth cycle, cellular biology, genetic and hormonal influences, and environmental impacts, participants will gain comprehensive insights to better understand and address hair loss disorders and treatments.

Professional Practice Gap

Advances in hair restoration techniques often overshadow fundamental knowledge of hair biology, leading to gaps in understanding the scientific basis of hair growth, loss, and regeneration. Physicians and practitioners may lack updated knowledge on the follicular microenvironment, histological differences, and nutritional or environmental influences, impacting clinical decision-making and treatment outcomes.

Educational Need

To address these gaps, this webinar will deliver focused, evidence-based education on:

  1. The anatomical and cellular basis of hair growth.
  2. Genetic, hormonal, and environmental influences on hair physiology.
  3. Nutritional and histological factors affecting hair health.

A better grasp of these concepts will allow participants to apply foundational knowledge in diagnosing and managing hair loss disorders and optimizing surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the anatomy and growth cycle phases of the hair follicle.
  2. Describe the cellular structure and biology of the hair follicle.
  3. Explain the role of genetics in hair growth and hair loss patterns.
  4. Discuss hormonal influences on hair physiology and disorders.
  5. Differentiate histological variations across hair types.
  6. Assess the scalp skin and follicular microenvironment’s role in hair health.
  7. Evaluate the role of nutrition in promoting hair growth and scalp health.
  8. Examine the effects of aging and environmental factors on hair follicles and scalp.

Target Audience and Prerequisites

This webinar is taught at the physician level. It is open to all levels and geared toward advanced hair restoration surgeons.
