WORLD’S LEADING HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGEONS HONOR FOUR DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS WITH PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS, HIGHEST HONORS AT
ISHRS 31ST WORLD CONGRESS
CHICAGO – November 27, 2023. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) recently honored four members for their significant contributions to the field of hair restoration surgery during its 31st World Congress, held in person in Delhi, India, November 1-4, 2023.
“The field of hair restoration surgery has evolved over the years thanks in large part to the education and expertise of ISHRS members who are actively involved in sharing their knowledge in treating all forms of hair loss with the latest medical and surgical advances,” said Kapil Dua, MBBS, MS, FISHRS, Immediate Past-President. “One of the highlights of our recent World Congress was honoring the achievements of our four esteemed award recipients who give selflessly to our profession, our patients, and our society.”
The ISHRS Golden Follicle Award is bestowed annually to a physician who has made outstanding and significant clinical or educational contributions related to the field of hair restoration surgery. The 2023 Golden Follicle Award was presented to Nicole E. Rogers, MD, FISHRS, a fellowship-trained hair restoration surgeon and board-certified dermatologist from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

An accomplished educator, Dr. Rogers serves as a clinical professor at Tulane University Medical School’s Department of Dermatology where she attended medical school. As a dermatology resident at Tulane, Dr. Rogers was appointed chief resident and helped rebuild Tulane’s training program following Hurricane Katrina that devastated the New Orleans area in 2005. Her commitment to the ISHRS is unwavering, having served on the annual scientific meeting committee several times and co-chaired the ISHRS’s popular Live Patient Viewing.
Dr. Rogers has published many textbook chapters and reviews on hair loss and hair transplantation, giving numerous lectures on medical therapies for hair disorders. Known for her endearing generosity, Dr. Rogers’ clinic door is always open to those who want to learn the latest surgical and medical therapies to treat hair loss.
The ISHRS Platinum Follicle Award is given for outstanding achievement in basic or clinical research, or an invention or discovery, or furthering techniques and methods in a profound way that has resulted in the advancement of the field of hair restoration. The 2023 Platinum Follicle Award was presented to dermatologist and hair restoration surgeon Aditya K. Gupta, MD, PhD, MA, MBA, FISHRS, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. With decades of medical experience, Dr. Gupta is hailed as the ISHRS member with the highest number of publications in PubMed – 869, at last count, over the last 38 years.

For the past 10 years, Dr. Gupta has authored 90 published articles and book chapters focusing on hair disorders and hair restoration. Currently serving as a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Toronto, Dr. Gupta is a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, and the American Board of Laser Medicine Surgery. The ISHRS Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor of the ISHRS, given when an individual has distinguished themselves not only for excellence in knowledge and surgical skill in hair restoration surgery but also for their sincere contributions to patients, the profession and dedicated service to ISHRS throughout their career. The 2023 ISHRS Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed to board-certified dermatologist, pediatric dermatologist, and hair restoration surgeon Robert S. Haber, MD, FISHRS, of Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Having been involved with the ISHRS since its inception, Dr. Haber has held nearly every position in the society including president. He served as co-editor of the Hair Transplant Forum International and received the Golden Follicle Award in 2009. Well known for his lively intelligence and imagination, Dr. Haber has lectured and served on panels at every ISHRS world congress on record and at many other medical meetings around the world. He is the co-editor of two textbooks on hair transplantation and is the inventor of an instrument to achieve transection-free donor strips that greatly benefits hair restoration patients.
The distinguished assistant award is presented each year to a surgical assistant who has demonstrated exemplary service and outstanding accomplishments in the field of hair restoration surgery. The 2023 Distinguished Surgical Assistant Award was awarded to Laura Krys, RN. Currently the head nurse for Dr. Ezequiel Panno in Marbella, Spain, Krys is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the clinic and manages and trains the surgical team, as well as students at various surgical workshops.
Before transitioning to train as a hair transplant technician, Krys spent her earlier career working in Spain as a nurse in palliative care, pain management, and chronic wound care. Actively involved in the ISHRS’s Surgical Assistants Committee, Krys coordinates programs and workshops at ISHRS World Congresses as well as annual meetings in aesthetic medicine. As a teacher at workshops and in her clinic, she is known as approachable, patient, and invested.

She grows empathy in her staff by exposing them to the patient’s point of view, literally having them play the role of the patient during surgery. Krys also helps organize the Annual Master of Aesthetic Medicine meeting held at the University of Cordoba.
