About the Doctor
Dr. Ricardo Mejia, MD is a board-certified dermatologist, fellowship-trained hair restoration surgeon, and internationally recognized leader in the field of hair transplantation. He served as President of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) from 2024–2025, culminating in the 2025 World Congress in Berlin, where his presidential theme, Unity, emphasized global collaboration, education, and ethical advancement in hair restoration.
With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Mejia specializes in advanced hair transplantation techniques, including follicular unit excision (FUE), with a focus on achieving natural, undetectable results. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and is among a select group of surgeons who are fellowship-trained in hair transplantation, board-certified in dermatology, and actively involved in shaping the future of the specialty.
Dr. Mejia has held multiple leadership roles within the ISHRS, including Treasurer on the Board of Governors, Chairman of the Committee on the Unlicensed Practice of Medicine, and leader of the ISHRS “Fight the Fight” campaign—advocating globally for patient safety and ensuring that hair transplant surgery is performed by qualified physicians.
A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. Mejia earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital and his dermatology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a dedicated fellowship in hair transplantation surgery.
His practice is dedicated to hair restoration, combining surgical precision, advanced technology, and a deep understanding of hair biology to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes. He is an active member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery, American Academy of Dermatology, and other leading medical organizations. Dr. Mejia is widely recognized for his commitment to physician-performed hair transplantation and for delivering results that are natural, refined, and built to last.
