About the Doctor
Dr. Ken Anderson, MD, FISHRS, ABHRS is the founder of Anderson Center for Hair, a state-of-the-art hair transplant center with two purpose-built facilities, one in Atlanta and the other in Alpharetta, Georgia. Dr. Anderson uniquely stands as the only board-certified facial plastic surgeon in the world with over 25 years dedicated exclusively to the specialty of hair restoration surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
He has confined his practice exclusively to the treatment of hair loss, both surgical and non-surgical, for over two decades. After graduating with honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Anderson completed a 6-year residency at the University of Michigan specializing in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (ENT surgery). As a part of his training in ENT surgery, Dr. Anderson completed a fellowship in tissue engineering in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He and his team were able to clone cartilage tissue and noninvasively surgically place the cartilage into animal models using needles. His work was so successful that it was published in Nature, one of the most prestigious and most-read academic journals in the world. His tissue engineering work at the University of Michigan was also published in PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association), Journal of Infectious Disease, Annals of Otology Rhinology & Laryngology, Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, and several others. This experience in the field of tissue engineering and biomedical engineering has given Dr. Anderson a unique perspective on many of the cutting-edge regenerative medicine treatments that are being developed to treat hair loss.
Following his residency training, Dr. Anderson completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Michigan. This fellowship was under the direction of Shan Baker, MD, FACS, president of the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. For the duration of his fellowship he was the staff otolaryngologist at the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration Hospital, where he proudly served America’s Veterans.
He began in private practice in Beverly Hills, California in 2003, until 2008 when he was recruited by EMORY Healthcare to serve as the Chief of Hair Restoration Surgery. He founded Anderson Center for Hair in 2010, and offers leading-edge surgical and non-surgical treatments from the field of regenerative medicine. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is also currently an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine. At least once a month he hosts physicians from the Department of Dermatology at Anderson Center for Hair for live surgical procedures and patient consultations as part of Emory’s physician training program in dermatology.
Dr. Anderson is a pioneer in FUE (follicular unit excision) hair restoration surgery. His first cases in hair restoration surgery were in 2002 during his fellowship in facial plastic surgery. In 2004 was the surgeon on the first FUE surgery case published in the worldwide medical literature (Bernstein RM, Rassman WR, Anderson KW: FUE Megasessions – Evolution of a Technique. Hair Transplant Forum International, 14(3):116-17, 2004). At that time there were no specialized surgical instruments to perform FUE hair transplant surgery like there are today, and so it was questioned whether an entire hair transplant procedure was even possible using only the FUE technique. In a surgery that lasted over 18 hours Dr. Anderson used disposable 1mm biopsy punches and proved that indeed it was possible to complete an entire hair transplant surgery using only the FUE technique.
In 2010 Dr. Anderson founded the American Academy of Hair Restoration Surgery which provides on-demand didactic and practical hands-on training in all aspects of surgical hair restoration. To date he has trained over 60 physicians from around the world in the non-surgical and surgical treatment of men’s and women’s hair loss.
Dr. Anderson also treats doctors: over 5% of his patients are themselves practicing physicians and surgeons. Since 2004 he has treated patients from 48 states and 53 different countries. Winner of over 70 local, national and international awards, including securing the award for the Best Hair Restoration Practice every year for the past 10 years from Atlanta Magazine, Modern Luxury The Atlantan, and Best Self Magazine. Each year since 2015 he has been selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, a peer-nominated award that only 7% of the physicians in the USA earn. Dr. Anderson has been recognized since 2019 as one of the Top 25 hair transplant centers in the world by a consumer group in the UK; only 11 of those on the list are in the USA. He has over 1000 5-star reviews on Google and RealSelf. With a dedicated surgical team that has over 180 years of combined experience in hair transplant surgery, Anderson Center for Hair is one of the most experienced hair transplant practices in the world.
Dr. Anderson gives generously to several local charities, both with financial support, as well as personally getting involved. Dr. Anderson has centered his practice and career on the specialty of hair restoration surgery, providing patients natural and permanent hair restoration surgery results, and a delightful patient experience.
