Title: Hair Restoration in Special Patients and Mega Session Technique

Program Description

This one and half hour webinar provides a comprehensive update on advanced techniques in hair restoration, focusing on mega sessions and the surgical management of patients with complex types of alopecia, such as scarring alopecia, afro-textured hair, diffuse pattern hair loss, and facial reconstruction.

Professional Practice Gap

Hair restoration has significantly evolved over the past decade, not only in technique but also in understanding the various types of alopecia requiring personalized approaches. However, significant gaps remain in continuing medical education, particularly in the following areas:

  1. Safe and effective application of FUE megasessions (>4000 follicular units in a single day), requiring precise technical knowledge, team management, and advanced surgical protocols to minimize follicular damage and maximize graft survival.
  2. Surgical approach to scarring alopecias, both primary and secondary, traditionally excluded from surgery due to ischemia risk and recurrence, but now treatable with individualized protocols.
  3. Techniques adapted for patients with special characteristics, such as afro-textured hair, diffuse hair loss patterns, or restoration in non-traditional areas like eyebrows, beard, and eyelashes, which require adjustments in design, extraction, and implantation.
  4. Innovative use of tissue expanders and other reconstructive techniques, which are uncommon in hair restoration practice despite their potential in extensive scarring alopecias.
  5. Lack of consensus on surgical standards for correcting unsatisfactory results, leaving surgeons to rely on personal experience rather than evidence-based protocols.

This webinar aims to bridge this educational gap by providing up-to-date information, based on the experience of international experts and supported by scientific literature, on advanced techniques to improve outcomes in “special” or complex patients.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the key principles for performing successful FUE megasessions, including surgical logistics, team management, and techniques to maximize graft survival in procedures involving more than 4,000 grafts.
  2. Identify current indications, contraindications, and surgical protocols in patients with cicatricial alopecia, both primary and secondary, including the potential use of tissue expanders.
  3. Apply specific strategies for design, extraction, and implantation in patients with particular characteristics such as afro-textured hair, diffuse thinning patterns, or non-traditional areas such as eyebrows, beard, and eyelashes.
  4. Recognize the technical differences and anatomical considerations in frontal hairline reconstruction in complex cases, to achieve natural and long-lasting results in patients with diffuse patterns or a history of failed surgeries.
  5. Analyze surgical and medical strategies for correcting unsatisfactory outcomes, understanding how to tailor individualized approaches based on clinical evidence and practical experience.
