INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF HAIR RESTORATION SURGERY ANNOUNCES
2019 AWARD RECIPIENTS FOR ADVANCING EXCELLENCE IN
HAIR RESTORATION SURGERY
CHICAGO, IL. –December 6, 2019. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) recently honored three clinical professionals for their outstanding contributions to the profession of hair restoration surgery. The award recipients were recognized during the ISHRS 27th World Congress and World Live Surgery Workshop (Bangkok, Thailand) in November 2019.
The 2019 Golden Follicle Award, bestowed annually to an ISHRS member who has made outstanding and significant clinical contributions related to the field of hair restoration surgery, was awarded to Robert H. True, MD, MPH, FISHRS, of New York, New York, USA. A meticulous surgeon who has embraced all the new techniques in the field, Dr. True is well known as someone who always shares his expertise with others and has taught numerous colleagues how to perform FUE. ]
Through the ISHRS surgical workshops including FUE-Palooza and Orlando Live Surgery Workshop, and regional society workshops, he directly influenced and inspired many surgical minds. A dedicated member of ISHRS, Dr. True has served as Program Chair for the ISHRS World Congress and Editor of the Hair Transplant Forum International. Recently, he took on the project of establishing an online, dynamic searchable website for the Society’s journal, the Forum.
The 2019 Platinum Follicle Award, given for outstanding achievement in basic scientific or clinically-related research in hair pathophysiology or anatomy as it relates to hair restoration, was presented to Ratchathorn (Bonus) Panchaprateep, MD, FISHRS, of Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Panchaprateep joined ISHRS in 2010 and also is a diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery.
Following completion of her medical degree, she achieved a Master of Science in dermatology and was a fellow under ISHRS Fellow Member Dr. Damkerng Pathomvanich in 2013. She obtained her PhD in dermatology on the topic of hair follicle stem cells/regeneration in 2014. Dr. Panchaprateep has published more than 20 scientific publications and has dedicated her efforts towards the treatment and management of alopecia. A regular presenter of oral and poster communications at the ISHRS World Congress, Dr. Panchaprateep teaches at ISHRS meetings and remains at the forefront of the field due to her hard work and dedication.
The 2019 Distinguished Surgical Assistant Award honoring a surgical assistant with exemplary service and outstanding accomplishments in the field of hair restoration surgery was awarded to Alieen Ullrich of Tigard, Oregon, USA. Well known and admired in the ISHRS community for her dedication to educational endeavors and selfless commitment to helping others in the hair restoration community, Ullrich began her career as a surgical assistant in 2005 and is an advocate for all surgical assistants.
Attending her first ISHRS annual meeting in 2007 in Las Vegas, she has been involved in many subsequent annual meetings — helping to set up, present and teach — and also has been an integral part of many workshops worldwide. A member of the Surgical Assistants Committee, Ullrich has also chaired the surgical assistant’s program on more than one occasion.
