Modern hair transplant techniques: read all about natural-looking hair transplants

It’s time to erase those dated images you have in your head of what hair transplantation looks like.

Gone are the days when people could tell a hair transplant immediately. Back then, they often compared its appearance to rows of summer corn.

Today’s hair transplantation technique is not your father’s hair replacement procedure. It is a natural-looking hair transplant and a highly-successful procedure.

Now, highly trained surgeons using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, along with measured artistry, can create hairlines and crown coverage that are virtually undetectable.

During the modern hair transplant procedure, hair is removed from one area of the body, which is called a donor site, and transferred to another area of the body, which is called a recipient site.

The hair takes. It is not rejected because it is autologous – meaning it comes from the same donor and recipient, much like self-donated blood is taken before and then used during a surgery to ensure a one-to-one match.

Because the donor and recipient are the same, the transplanted hair maintains the same characteristics of color, texture, growth rate and curl – lending to its natural-looking appearance.

The vitality of the grafted hair follicles is maintained, too, because of the rich blood supply to the scalp.

The grafts – or transplanted hair – are vastly different than the hair “plugs” that were commonly used during the 1970s and 1980s.

Surgeons who are members of ISHRS have the latest and most-effective techniques are their disposal, allowing them to give their patients truly natural results by transplanting larger numbers of small grafts very close together.

Our member surgeons know that hair grows from the scalp in groups of one, two or three follicles, allowing them to transfer these groups into the areas of thinning hair or baldness.

Once completed, the procedure is natural looking, and virtually undetectable.

So, get rid of those preconceived notions or hair transplantation, and pick up your hairbrush – you’re going to need it.
